Comfort, protection, and a fit that's just right are conditions that Columbia provides for youth apparel. The PFG Backcast Short is a perfect example of that; it's durable and comfortable all while giving your little adventurer the protection he needs. These are his new favorite shorts.
The technology featured in these shorts provide ultimate protection. Our built-in UPF 50 protection works hard to block UVA and UVB sun rays to help prevent sunburns and long-term sun damage. The 100% nylon quick-drying fabric provides comfort and breathability. Leave the worrying to us: the two side pockets on these shorts provide just enough space to keep smaller items secure.

And for your inseam measurement, measure from the top of the interior leg to the end of the knee.
My son is 15, tall and "skinny" (I would never say that to him, he is very self conscience about it). The thing is he is super muscle but lean, ZERO body fat (Gosh if I could be so lucky LOL). His Dad was the same at his age, also bothered by it, but filled out to make a handsome perfect 6'1 180 lbs so I keep telling my son to give it time! Needless to say, he's not really in youth sizes and small men's swallow him! I have been lucky enough to fine very few x-small in men's that work ok, but these XL Columbia shorts are PERFECT!!! I can't say it ENOUGH!!! Only problem it's hard to find them available. I have ordered every color I have been able to get them in but would still like the darker colors, Navy, Black etc. He has room to grow in these, the material is great, very good Quality! Even though we live at the beach and don't have much need for Columbia, these have made us HUGE Fans!!! And are now fans of the PFG line!!! : ) HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
My boys love these shorts. They do have mesh inside so they can be a swim trunks or nice shorts. My boys wear them as both. My boys are 11 and I bought a Large.
Bought an XXS my 2 year old son and they are little to big for but I expected they would be! If I roll them up once they fit him perfect! They look exactly like the adult Columbia shorts!
These are good shorts however, my only complaint with them is the pockets! I bought these for my son and every time he wears them in water then gets out, the pockets are constantly hanging out. They need a better pocket design. Other then that these are good shorts.
My son is a very small 15 year old , and the shorts were a bit tight on him. Definitely go up a size that you normally would buy.
Nothing like the current ones in the store
These were for my son and he liked them. They seem well made, just like most all Columbia stuff. I wouldn't pay $30 or more for them, but at 20 bucks, they are great shorts.
Love these and got them for a fraction of the cost. The only downfall is the pockets turn inside out a lot when swimming. Other than that we love them!
